What it is

The LDS V8750 is a medium-force electrodynamic shaker rated at 8,000 lbf (35.6 kN) sine force, with 3.0 in (76.2 mm) of peak-to-peak displacement. It builds on the LDS V875LS and adds higher shock performance, energy savings in COOL mode, an intuitive touchscreen interface, preventive maintenance diagnostics, and an inductive centring system (ICS). It is driven by the LDS XPAK amplifier: the XPA48K for maximum sine and random performance, or the XPA88K for enhanced shock, up to 31,475 lbf (140.0 kN) half-sine. Two armature sizes are available, 17.3 in (440 mm) and 25.2 in (640 mm). The shaker comes base-mounted, Lin-E-Air trunnion-mounted, or combo-mounted with a slip table.

  • Sine force: 8,000 lbf (35.6 kN) peak
  • Random force: 8,000 lbf (35.6 kN) rms (440 mm); 7,309 lbf (32.5 kN) rms (640 mm)
  • Half-sine shock force: up to 18,030 lbf (80.2 kN) with XPA48K; up to 31,475 lbf (140.0 kN) with XPA88K
  • Acceleration: up to 112.0 gn sine peak and 100.0 gn random rms (440 mm)
  • Velocity: 98.4 in/s (2.5 m/s) sine peak; 157.5 in/s (4.0 m/s) shock peak
  • Displacement: 3.0 in (76.2 mm) peak-to-peak
  • Usable frequency range: 5 Hz to 3,000 Hz
  • Internal load support: 1,323 lb (600 kg)
  • Required amplifier: LDS XPA48K or XPA88K

Shock / transient

Half-sine to 31,475 lbf

Two-millisecond half-sine pulses to 31,475 lbf (140.0 kN) with the XPA88K, with shock velocity to 157.5 in/s (4.0 m/s).

What it is used for

Some of the use cases for the LDS V8750 include:

  • Classical shock testing: half-sine pulses up to 31,475 lbf (140.0 kN) with the XPA88K, with shock velocity to 157.5 in/s (4.0 m/s).
  • Random vibration testing: random profiles up to 8,000 lbf (35.6 kN) rms and 100 gn rms on the 440 mm armature.
  • Low-frequency, long-displacement testing: profiles that need 3.0 in (76.2 mm) of stroke and 98.4 in/s (2.5 m/s) sine velocity.
  • Squeak and rattle testing: running in Quiet mode with the cooling fan switched off for short periods at low force.
  • Large fixtures and payloads: mounting large fixtures on the 640 mm armature, with test articles supported by the 1,323 lb (600 kg) internal load support.
  • Horizontal testing: combo mounting with an LPT or HBT slip table.

Key features

  • Inductive centring system (ICS): increases system reliability.
  • Three operating modes: Standard, Quiet, and COOL. COOL mode monitors system parameters and cuts the power needed for a given test. Quiet mode runs with the fan off for short periods at low force.
  • Inverter-driven cooling fan: fan speed is controlled automatically in COOL mode, or manually, to reduce power consumption and acoustic noise at lower test levels.
  • Touchscreen amplifier interface: displays interlocks, temperatures, voltage and current, power consumption, and power savings.
  • Built-in diagnostics: CAN bus monitoring from the shaker through the pneumatics control unit. Data is shown in real time and stored in the amplifier for preventive maintenance and fault detection.
  • Two armature sizes: 440 mm and 640 mm, with flush or raised stainless-steel inserts in M8, M10, or 3/8 UNC.
  • Overturning moment restraint: 13,214 lbf·in (1,493 N·m).
  • Low gauss option: reduces stray magnetic field to under 8 gauss (0.8 mT).

Why engineers pick it

Shock capability beyond the V875LS. The XPA88K raises half-sine shock force to 31,475 lbf (140.0 kN) on the 440 mm armature, with 157.5 in/s (4.0 m/s) shock velocity.

Lower running costs. COOL mode and the inverter-driven fan reduce power consumption for tests below full force.

Easier to maintain. Continuous CAN bus monitoring and stored diagnostic data support preventive maintenance, and the inductive centring system adds reliability.

Quiet when it matters. Fan noise drops from 102 dBA to 99 dBA with a silencer and below 80 dBA in an acoustic enclosure, and Quiet mode can switch the fan off for low-force squeak and rattle work.

The V8750 system

  • LDS XPAK amplifier: XPA48K or XPA88K, with touchscreen interface and internal diagnostics.
  • Pneumatics control unit: emergency stop, Lin-E-Air and internal load support controls, and indicators for armature position and load support pressure.
  • Cooling fan: inverter-driven, with optional silencer or acoustic enclosure.
  • HBT slip table hydraulic unit: stand-alone pump for HBT slip tables. LPT slip tables carry their hydraulic supply inside the table.

Site requirements

  • Power: 3-phase, 380 to 480 V, 50/60 Hz. Total steady-state requirement for amplifier and fan is 60 kVA with the XPA48K, or with the XPA88K 60 kVA (Type C MCB) or 68 kVA (Type B MCB).
  • Compressed air: 100 psi (6.9 bar).
  • Ambient: shaker +45 to 86 °F (+7 to 30 °C); amplifier +41 to 86 °F (+5 to 30 °C).
  • Acoustics: 108 dBA shaker and 74 dBA amplifier at 3.3 ft (1 m). The cooling fan is 102 dBA, 99 dBA with a silencer, or below 80 dBA in an acoustic enclosure.
