What it is

The LDS V875 is a medium-force electrodynamic shaker rated at up to 8,000 lbf (35.6 kN) sine force, or 8,500 lbf (37.8 kN) in the V875-640EF version. It is built for vibration and mechanical shock testing with sinusoidal, random, or transient excitation. Three armature sizes are available: 9.45 in (240 mm), 17.32 in (440 mm), and 25.20 in (640 mm). The V875-240 reaches 163 gn sine acceleration. All versions deliver 2.0 in (50.8 mm) of peak-to-peak displacement and carry 1,323 lb (600 kg) on the internal load support, driven by the LDS SPA-K switching amplifier from 8 to 40 kVA.

  • Sine force: up to 8,000 lbf (35.6 kN) peak with SPA40K; 8,500 lbf (37.8 kN) for the V875-640EF
  • Random force: up to 8,000 lbf (35.6 kN) rms (V875-440); 8,500 lbf (37.8 kN) for the V875-640EF
  • Half-sine shock force: up to 18,958 lbf (84.3 kN) (V875-440 with SPA40K)
  • Acceleration: up to 163.0 gn sine peak and 120.0 gn random rms (V875-240)
  • Velocity: 78.7 in/s (2.0 m/s) sine peak (240 and 440 armatures); 70.9 in/s (1.8 m/s) (640 armatures)
  • Displacement: 2.0 in (50.8 mm) peak-to-peak
  • Usable frequency range: DC to 3,000 Hz (240 and 440 armatures)
  • Internal load support: 1,323 lb (600 kg)
  • Recommended amplifier: LDS SPA8K through SPA40K

PSD screening and qualification to 8,000 lbf (35.6 kN) rms with the V875-440, 8,500 lbf (37.8 kN) with the 640EF, or 120 gn rms on the V875-240.

Shock / transient

Half-sine to 18,958 lbf

Two-millisecond half-sine pulses to 18,958 lbf (84.3 kN) with the V875-440 and SPA40K, plus transient time-history replication.

What it is used for

Some of the use cases for the LDS V875 include:

  • High-acceleration sine testing: swept and dwell testing at up to 163 gn with the V875-240.
  • Random vibration testing: random profiles up to 8,000 lbf (35.6 kN) rms with the V875-440, or 8,500 lbf (37.8 kN) rms with the V875-640EF.
  • Mechanical shock testing: 2 ms half-sine pulses up to 18,958 lbf (84.3 kN).
  • Large fixtures and payloads: mounting large fixtures on the 25.20 in (640 mm) armature, with test articles supported by the 1,323 lb (600 kg) internal load support.
  • Transient testing: transient excitation for time-history replication.
  • Horizontal and under-chamber testing: using a combo slip table, the body rotation gearbox, or under-chamber operation.

Key features

  • Three armature sizes, four versions: 240 mm, 440 mm, and 640 mm armatures, plus the V875-640EF rated at 8,500 lbf (37.8 kN).
  • Five amplifier sizes: SPA8K through SPA40K, so force can be sized to the test program.
  • Two mounting choices: base-mounted, or Lin-E-Air air-isolated trunnions with a body suspension resonance below 5 Hz.
  • High rotational stiffness: 250,000 lbf·ft/rad (339 kN·m/rad) on the 440 mm and 640 mm armatures.
  • Internal load support: carries 1,323 lb (600 kg), controlled from the pneumatics pedestal box.
  • Low gauss option: reduces stray magnetic field to under 8 gauss (0.8 mT) at 6 in (150 mm) above the table.
  • Pneumatics pedestal box: emergency stop, Lin-E-Air and load support control valves, and armature position indicator.
  • Wide option list: combo slip table, V-groove castors, air glide, chamber floor support, cooling fan silencer, acoustic enclosure, thermal management, and head expander.

Why engineers pick it

One platform from 1,740 lbf to 8,000 lbf. Sine force steps from 1,740 lbf (7.7 kN) with an SPA8K to 8,000 lbf (35.6 kN) with an SPA40K on every standard armature size.

Armature matched to the payload. The V875-240 delivers 163 gn sine for small, high-g tests. The V875-440 carries the highest random rating of the standard versions. The 640 mm armatures take the largest fixtures.

Stiff, well-guided armature. The 440 mm and 640 mm versions pair 34,000 lbf/in (5.9 kN/mm) cross-axial stiffness with 250,000 lbf·ft/rad (339 kN·m/rad) rotational stiffness.

Built for sensitive payloads. The low gauss option limits stray field to under 8 gauss (0.8 mT) on every armature size.

The V875 system

  • LDS SPA-K switching amplifier: SPA8K to SPA40K; 100 V rms rated output, 80 A rms per 8 kVA increment.
  • Pneumatics pedestal box: emergency stop, Lin-E-Air suspension air control, armature position indicator, and load support control.
  • Shaker cooling fan: 50 Hz or 60 Hz, with an optional silencer.

Site requirements

  • Power: 3-phase, 380 to 500 V, 50/60 Hz as standard. A low-voltage option covers 200 to 220 V, 50/60 Hz. Maximum steady-state input runs from 36.1 kVA (SPA8K) to 64.8 kVA (SPA40K), including amplifier, cooling fan, and pedestal box.
  • Compressed air: 100 psi (6.9 bar).
  • Ambient: shaker +45 to 86 °F (+7 to 30 °C); amplifier +41 to 86 °F (+5 to 30 °C).
  • Acoustics: 108 dBA shaker, 99 dBA cooling fan, and 72 dBA amplifier at 3.3 ft (1 m).
