What it is

The LDS V780 is the highest-force model in the LDS V555/V650/V721/V780 small electrodynamic shaker family, rated at 1,150 lbf (5.12 kN) sine force and 111 gn sine acceleration. It is driven by the LDS HPAK, a dedicated 5 kVA switching amplifier that powers the shaker, field coils, and cooling fan from a single three-phase unit. A 7.09 in (180 mm) armature carries up to 220 lb (100 kg) of internal payload over 1.0 in (25.4 mm) of peak-to-peak displacement. The usable frequency range runs from DC to 4,000 Hz, and the shaker operates vertically or horizontally.

  • Sine force: 1,150 lbf (5.12 kN) peak
  • Random force: 950 lbf (4.23 kN) rms
  • Half-sine shock force: 2,145 lbf (9.5 kN)
  • Acceleration: 111.0 gn sine peak; 50.0 gn random rms
  • Velocity: 74.8 in/s (1.90 m/s) sine peak
  • Displacement: 1.0 in (25.4 mm) peak-to-peak
  • Usable frequency range: DC to 4,000 Hz
  • Internal payload capacity: 220 lb (100 kg)
  • Recommended amplifier: LDS HPAK

At a glance

1,150 lbf/5.12 kN sine force for stronger low-force qualification

950 lbf/4.23 kN random force for higher PSD on small assemblies

7.09"/180 mm armature handles small-to-medium fixtures

1.0"/25.4 mm stroke, DC- 4 kHz for shock and sweep coverage

Sinusoidal

1,150 lbf — 111 gn peak

Swept-sine resonance search and dwell to 1,150 lbf (5.12 kN) peak and 111 gn, the highest force and acceleration in the family.

Random

950 lbf rms, 50 gn

PSD screening and qualification of electronic assemblies up to 220 lb (100 kg), to 950 lbf (4.23 kN) rms.

Shock / transient

Half-sine to 2,145 lbf

Two-millisecond half-sine pulses to 2,145 lbf (9.5 kN), at 10% pre- and post-pulse with the standard payload.

What it is used for

Some of the use cases for the LDS V780 include:

  • Automotive component testing: sine, random, and shock testing of components and assemblies.
  • Electronic assembly testing: vibration screening and qualification of electronic assemblies up to 220 lb (100 kg).
  • Modal and structural analysis: structural excitation across a usable range from DC to 4,000 Hz.
  • Fatigue and resonance testing: high-level resonance dwells with 111 gn sine acceleration available.
  • Shock testing: half-sine shock pulses up to 2,145 lbf (9.5 kN).
  • In-house testing and calibration: routine vibration checks and calibration work.

Key features

  • Highest force and acceleration in the family: 1,150 lbf (5.12 kN) sine, 950 lbf (4.23 kN) random, and 111 gn sine acceleration.
  • Highest velocity in the family: 74.8 in/s (1.90 m/s) sine peak.
  • One-box amplifier: the HPAK Class D switching amplifier supplies armature, field coil, and cooling fan power at over 90% amplifier efficiency.
  • Lightweight, high-performance armature: a 10.36 lb (4.70 kg) moving element on a 7.09 in (180 mm) armature.
  • Robust, lightweight suspension: provides torsional and transverse stiffness with minimal impact on system acceleration.
  • Vertical and horizontal operation: trunnion-mounted for either test axis.
  • Armature interface: one center insert and eight equispaced inserts on a 5.9 in (150 mm) pitch circle, in 3/8 UNF or M8.

Why engineers pick it

Top of the small-shaker range. The V780 delivers 1,150 lbf (5.12 kN) versus 651 lbf (2.9 kN) for the V721 on the same 7.09 in (180 mm) armature and 840 lb (381 kg) body.

Simple system architecture. The HPAK powers the shaker, field coils, and cooling fan, so no separate field power supply is needed.

Clean, efficient drive. Typical total harmonic distortion of 0.15%, a signal-to-noise ratio above 68 dB, and 93% module efficiency.

Proven reliability. The family is built for maximum system availability.

The V780 system

  • LDS HPAK switching power amplifier: 5 kVA, 100 V rms rated output, 50 A rms continuous. Three-phase input of 380–440 V at 50/60 Hz, or 480/500 V at 60 Hz.
  • Cooling fan: three-phase 380–440 V, 50 Hz, or 380–500 V, 60 Hz, powered from the HPAK.

The V780 can be driven by any suitable oscillator, amplifier, and field power supply combination. The HPAK is the amplifier specifically recommended.

Configuring and scaling

Select the V780 on this page and use Request Quote to start your system. Contact W5 for items the selector doesn't cover: armature insert thread (3/8 UNF or M8), 50 Hz or 60 Hz cooling fan, vibration controller, and fixturing.

If single-phase power is a constraint, the LDS V721 runs on the LPA1000 + FPS at 651 lbf (2.9 kN) with the same armature and payload capacity.
