What it is

The LDS V650 is a small electrodynamic shaker rated at up to 495 lbf (2.2 kN) sine force, with a usable frequency range from DC to 4,000 Hz. It is the only model in the LDS V555/V650/V721/V780 family offered with a choice of two amplifiers. With the LDS HPAK switching amplifier it delivers 495 lbf (2.2 kN), 100 gn, and 59.1 in/s (1.50 m/s). With the LDS LPA1000 linear amplifier and FPS field power supply it delivers 364 lbf (1.62 kN). A lightweight, high-performance armature and 1.0 in (25.4 mm) of peak-to-peak displacement carry up to 110 lb (50 kg) of internal payload, and the shaker operates vertically or horizontally.

  • Sine force: 495 lbf (2.2 kN) with HPAK; 364 lbf (1.62 kN) with LPA1000 + FPS
  • Random force: 346 lbf (1.54 kN) rms with HPAK; 245 lbf (1.09 kN) rms with LPA1000 + FPS
  • Half-sine shock force: 691 lbf (3.1 kN) with HPAK; 475 lbf (2.1 kN) with LPA1000 + FPS
  • Acceleration: up to 100 gn sine peak and 70 gn random rms (HPAK)
  • Velocity: up to 59.1 in/s (1.50 m/s) sine peak (HPAK)
  • Displacement: 1.0 in (25.4 mm) peak-to-peak
  • Usable frequency range: DC to 4,000 Hz
  • Internal payload capacity: 110 lb (50 kg)

At a glance

495 lbf/2.2 kN sine force for compact qualification tasks

346 lbf/1.54 kN random force for low-force screening in an air-cooled package

6.14"/156 mm armature supports small fixtures and DUTs

1.0"/25.4 mm stroke, DC- 4 kHz for versatile bench testing

Sinusoidal

495 lbf — DC to 4,000 Hz

Swept-sine resonance search and dwell to 495 lbf (2.2 kN) peak and 100 gn with the HPAK, or 364 lbf (1.62 kN) with the LPA1000 and FPS.

Random

346 lbf rms, 70 gn

PSD screening and qualification of electronic assemblies and mid-sized components to 346 lbf (1.54 kN) rms with the HPAK.

Shock / transient

Half-sine to 691 lbf

Two-millisecond half-sine pulses to 691 lbf (3.1 kN) with the HPAK, at 10% pre- and post-pulse with the standard payload.

What it is used for

Some of the use cases for the LDS V650 include:

  • Automotive component testing: sine and random vibration testing of small to mid-sized components.
  • Electronic assembly testing: vibration screening and qualification of electronic assemblies.
  • Modal and structural analysis: structural excitation across a usable range from DC to 4,000 Hz.
  • Fatigue and resonance testing: resonance searches and dwells on test articles up to 110 lb (50 kg).
  • Velocity transducer or high-speed actuator: using the shaker itself as a transducer or fast actuator.
  • In-house testing and calibration: routine vibration checks and calibration work.

Key features

  • Two amplifier options: the HPAK for maximum force from a single three-phase 5 kVA unit, or the rack-mount LPA1000 with FPS for single-phase operation.
  • Lightweight, high-performance armature: a 4.94 lb (2.24 kg) moving element delivers up to 100 gn sine acceleration.
  • Robust, lightweight suspension: provides torsional and transverse stiffness with minimal impact on system acceleration.
  • Vertical and horizontal operation: trunnion-mounted for either test axis.
  • Armature interface: 6.14 in (156 mm) armature with one center insert and eight equispaced inserts on a 4.9 in (125 mm) pitch circle, in 5/16 UNF or M8.

Why engineers pick it

Choose force or simplicity. The HPAK raises sine force from 364 lbf (1.62 kN) to 495 lbf (2.2 kN) and supplies the shaker, field coils, and cooling fan from one unit. The LPA1000 + FPS runs from single-phase 100, 120, or 230 V.

Double the payload of the V555. 110 lb (50 kg) internal payload capacity in a trunnion-mounted package of 23.0 × 29.3 × 15.0 in (584 × 744 × 380 mm).

Efficient switching drive. The HPAK is a Class D switching amplifier with over 90% amplifier efficiency and 93% module efficiency.

Proven reliability. The family is built for maximum system availability.

The V650 system

With HPAK

  • LDS HPAK switching power amplifier: 5 kVA, three-phase input. It powers the shaker, field coils, and cooling fan.
  • Cooling fan: three-phase 380–440 V, 50 Hz, or 380–500 V, 60 Hz.

With LPA1000 + FPS

  • LDS LPA1000 linear power amplifier: 961 VA rated output into 4.0 Ω, single-phase input.
  • LDS FPS field power supply: field and degauss coil power and a switchable cooling fan output. It is required with the LPA1000.
  • Cooling fan: single-phase 230 V, 50 Hz, or single-phase 120 V / 230 V, 60 Hz.

The V650 can be driven by any suitable oscillator, amplifier, and field power supply combination. The LPA1000 + FPS and the HPAK are the combinations specifically recommended.

Configuring and scaling

Select the V650 on this page and use Request Quote to start your system. Contact W5 for items the selector doesn't cover: amplifier (HPAK or LPA1000 + FPS), armature insert thread (5/16 UNF or M8), 50 Hz or 60 Hz cooling fan, vibration controller, and fixturing.

For a smaller system, the LDS V555 delivers 211 lbf (0.94 kN) with a usable range from DC to 6,300 Hz. For more payload, the LDS V721 and V780 carry 220 lb (100 kg) internally.
