What it is
The Equilam NA IPX9K Code Test Chamber tests the water-ingress protection of electrical enclosures to the IPX9 and IPX9K degree of protection, spraying the specimen with high-pressure, high-temperature water jets from defined angles. It reproduces the IEC 60529 and ISO 20653 test: roughly 80 °C water at about 100 bar delivered through a jet nozzle at 0°, 30°, 60°, and 90°, so a manufacturer can verify that an enclosure keeps water out under close-range, high-pressure cleaning such as steam and pressure washers. Built in stainless steel with UL-registered electrical components, it can be supplied as a cabinet unit or, for larger specimens, as a walk-in or drive-in chamber.

What it is used for
The chamber is built for IP-Code water-ingress testing of electrical enclosures:
- IPX9 / IPX9K verification — confirming protection against close-range, high-pressure, high-temperature water jets
- Automotive and vehicle electronics — qualifying enclosures to ISO 20653 IPX9K
- Degree-of-protection testing — testing enclosures to IEC 60529 IP-Code requirements
- Pressure-wash environments — validating equipment exposed to steam or pressure-washer cleaning in food, agricultural, and industrial applications
- Large specimens and full assemblies — testing oversized parts in walk-in or drive-in configurations
How the test works
High-pressure, high-temperature jet. Water at about 80 °C and roughly 100 bar is delivered through a jet nozzle sized to IEC 60529, at a flow of 14–16 l/min.
Defined spray angles. For specimens smaller than 9.8 in (250 mm), the nozzle sprays from four positions — 0°, 30°, 60°, and 90° — for 30 s per position. For specimens 9.8 in (250 mm) or larger, the number and positions of the spray nozzle are set to achieve total wettability of the enclosure surface per IEC 60529.
Controlled standoff. The required distance between the enclosure and the nozzle is 7.9 in ± 2 in (200 ± 50 mm) for specimens smaller than 9.8 in, and 6.9 in ± 1 in (175 ± 25 mm) for specimens 9.8 in (250 mm) or larger, per IEC 60529.
Heated, pressurized water system. A 92 gal reservoir with a hydrostatic certificate feeds the heating and pressurization system; a pressure regulator valve and a gauge reading in bar, kgf/cm², and psi (0–10 kgf/cm² ± 0.1 kgf/cm²) set and show working pressure.
Pre-test conditioning. A cleaning and pressure-adjustment (pre-test) system prepares the system before a run.
Why engineers pick it
Purpose-built for IPX9K. It delivers the approximately 80 °C, approximately 100 bar water jet at the IEC 60529 nozzle angles and standoff distances the standard specifies, so IPX9 and IPX9K tests run to spec.
It handles small parts through full assemblies. A cabinet configuration covers specimens up to 9.8 in (250 mm), and walk-in or drive-in configurations handle larger specimens and complete assemblies.
Corrosion- and pressure-rated build. A stainless-steel structure and high-strength materials, a hydrostatic-certified 92 gal reservoir, and UL-registered electrical components suit the high-pressure, hot-water duty.
Operator safety by design. The chamber meets NR12 machine-safety requirements with an automatic operator-safety system and visual LED indication.
Complete documentation and installation support. Units ship with installation, maintenance, and user manuals, and on-site assembly and staff training are available.
Configuring and ordering
The IPX9K chamber is configured to the specimen: a standard cabinet for parts up to 9.8 in (250 mm), or a walk-in or drive-in chamber for larger specimens and full assemblies. Device dimensions and weights are set per project; the water tank measures 63 in × 33 in × 38 in (1,600 × 830 × 960 mm). Electrical supply is 220 VAC, 60 Hz, 16 A single-phase, or per project. A one-year parts warranty covers manufacturing defects from delivery.
Tell us your specimen size and the standard you test to (IEC 60529 or ISO 20653), and we will configure and quote the chamber with you.
