What it is used for
Some of the use cases for the ASR-3000 Series include:
- On-board chargers
- Server power supplies
- LED modules, AC motors, AC fans, and UPS
- Electronic products and electronic component development testing
- Automotive electrical device simulation testing
- Household appliance application testing, etc.
What does the ASR-3000 Series do?
The ASR-3000 is ideal for the development of on-board chargers, server power supplies, LED modules, AC motors, AC fans, UPS, and various electronic components, as well as for testing applications of automotive electrical equipment and home appliances.
The series provides rated power output during both AC output and DC output. Ten ASR-3000 output modes are available:
- AC power output mode (AC-INT Mode)
- DC power output mode (DC-INT Mode)
- AC/DC power output mode (AC+DC-INT Mode)
- External AC signal source mode (AC-EXT Mode)
- External AC/DC signal source mode (AC+DC-EXT Mode)
- External AC signal superimposition mode (AC-ADD Mode)
- External AC/DC signal superimposition mode (AC+DC-ADD Mode)
- External AC signal synchronization mode (AC-SYNC Mode)
- External AC/DC signal synchronization mode (AC+DC-SYNC Mode)
- External DC voltage control of AC output mode (AC-VCA Mode)
Sequence mode generates waveform falls, surges, sags, changes, and other abnormal power line conditions; the arbitrary waveform function stores and uploads user-defined waveforms; and simulate mode simulates power outage, voltage rise, voltage fall, and frequency variations. While outputting, the ASR-3000 measures Vrms, Vavg, Vpeak, Irms, Iavg, Ipeak, IpkH, P, S, Q, PF, CF, and 100th-order voltage and current harmonics.
Remote sensing ensures accurate voltage output, and customized phase angles set the start and end angles of the voltage output. V-Limit, Ipeak-Limit, and F-Limit can be set to user requirements, and over voltage limit, OCP, and OPP protect the DUT. Fan fail and AC fail alarms are built in.
The front panel provides a universal socket or a European socket for plug-and-use operation. Because the socket is rated for a maximum of 15 A, the rear panel has a current circuit breaker that automatically opens when socket current exceeds 15 A.
Why engineers pick it
- Full DC power, fast. DC output delivers 100% of rated power up to ±570 V, with DC voltage rise and fall times of ≤100 ms.
- Every interface included. USB, LAN, RS-232C, GPIB, external control I/O, and a web server are standard, not options.
- High-frequency option. The ASR-3400HF extends AC output to 5 kHz for applications beyond the 999.9 Hz of the other models.
- Large waveform library. 253 nonvolatile arbitrary waveforms of 4,096 words each, plus ten sequence and simulation sets.
Which ASR-3000 model do I need?
| Model | Power capacity | Max. current (100 V / 200 V) | Max. peak current (100 V / 200 V) | Max. frequency | Max. input current (200 Vac) |
| ASR-3200 | 2,000 VA / 2,000 W | 20 A / 10 A | 120 A / 60 A | 999.9 Hz | 15 A |
| ASR-3300 | 3,000 VA / 3,000 W | 30 A / 15 A | 180 A / 90 A | 999.9 Hz | 22.5 A |
| ASR-3400 | 4,000 VA / 4,000 W | 40 A / 20 A | 240 A / 120 A | 999.9 Hz | 30 A |
| ASR-3400HF | 4,000 VA / 4,000 W | 40 A / 20 A | 160 A / 80 A | 5,000 Hz | 30 A |

For three-phase output (1P2W, 1P3W, 3P4W), three identical ASR-3000 models can be combined with the ASR-002 external three-phase control unit.
When is the ASR-3000 the wrong choice?
- Single-phase 100 V mains. Input is single phase at 200 … 240 Vac (180 … 264 Vac range).
- Full features in three-phase mode. With the ASR-002, DC output, harmonic analysis, remote sensing, arbitrary waveforms, sequence and simulation, external control I/O, and memory are not available, and communication is USB only.
- Front-panel socket loads above 15 A. The front socket is rated 15 A maximum and protected by a rear-panel circuit breaker that opens above 15 A.
- Hot environments. Operating temperature is 32 … 104 °F (0 … 40 °C).

Using the ASR-002 three-phase control unit
Basic requirements of the ASR-002 for the ASR Series: three identical ASR-Series models are required. For the ASR-2000 Series, the Opt01 RS-232 + GPIB interface is also required.
Functions of the ASR Series are limited when connected to the ASR-002: no DC output; measurement items limited to current (A), power (W), and PF for each phase; no voltage and current harmonic analysis; no remote sensing; no arbitrary waveform function; no sequence and simulation function; external control I/O not supported; no memory function; USB only, no LAN port for communication.
