What it is

The Espec Platinous series is Espec North America's flagship temperature and temperature-humidity chamber line, available in 8, 14, and 32 cu ft interior volumes. Platinous chambers pair finely tuned refrigeration, with an exclusive electronic expansion-valve system and an in-chamber humidity bath, with a choice of temperature ranges (to −30 °C, −35 °C, or −70 °C) and optional humidity control from 10 to 98% RH. Current J-series units run the 10-inch GL touchscreen controller with web, USB, Ethernet, and a REST API; H-series units run the P-300 controller.

What it is used for

The Platinous series covers general-purpose temperature and humidity work:

• Temperature and humidity testing — reliability and quality validation across 10 to 98% RH
• Temperature cycling — hot and cold cycling to −70 °C and +180 °C
• Steady-state environmental conditioning — long-duration hold testing
• Component and product qualification — electronics, assemblies, and finished products
• Standards-based environmental work — automated profiles run from the controller

Model families

Size suffix: −2 (8 cu ft), −3 (14 cu ft), −4 (32 cu ft), plus a generation suffix J (GL controller) or H (P-300 controller). For example, EPX-3J.

Key features

Electronic expansion-valve refrigeration. Forward-looking control algorithms and electronic expansion valves deliver faster ramping, better stabilization, and energy savings.

In-chamber humidity bath. Water is heated inside the chamber for faster humidity response and easier maintenance than a traditional steam generator.

Espec construction details. Stainless-steel interior and exterior, rounded interior corners, and black resin thermal breaks around the door and doorframe.

Standard fittings. Hinged service panels, one 4 in cable port, one wire shelf with rails, leveling casters, a specimen-power interlock relay, and an ETL-listed panel conforming to UL 508A.

Modern control and data. GL on the J-series: 10-inch touchscreen or remote browser, USB and Ethernet, macros, and a REST API for integration. P-300 on the H-series: tabbed touchscreen with standard USB and optional Ethernet.

Configuring and ordering

Choose the family (EPU, EPL, EPZ, or EPX) for your low-temperature range and humidity need, the size (8, 14, or 32 cu ft), and the generation and controller (J with GL, or H with P-300). Note that the J and H generations differ slightly in low-temperature range on the EPU and EPL families, −30 °C against −35 °C, and in temperature fluctuation on the 8 cu ft size.
