What it is

The EA-EL 9000 DT is a compact programmable electronic DC load for the bench, a conventional dissipative load with thermal derating that sets continuous power by ambient temperature. All models support constant voltage, constant current, constant power, and constant resistance regulation, driven by a fast microprocessor with a true function generator, a battery test mode, and MPP tracking. In a desktop enclosure with a carrying handle and tilt stand, it offers two power classes, 600 W and 1200 W, spanning 0–80 V to 0–750 V and 0–5 A to 0–60 A, sized for daily use in laboratories, schools, and workshops.

  • Programmable desktop electronic DC load, dissipative with thermal derating
  • Two power classes, 600 W and 1200 W peak
  • Input voltages 0–80 V up to 0–750 V; currents 0–5 A up to 0–60 A
  • Regulation modes CV, CC, CP, CR
  • True function generator with up to 99 configurable sequences
  • Integrated battery test mode (elapsed time, Ah, Wh) and MPP tracking
  • Multilingual color TFT touch panel (German, English, Russian, Chinese)
  • Wide AC supply 90–264 V with active power factor correction (electronics and fans)
  • Fast, ARM-processor-controlled response over analog and digital interfaces
  • Galvanically isolated Ethernet, analog, and USB interfaces as standard
  • Adjustable protections OVP, OCP, OPP, plus OTP
  • User profiles; front USB for loading and saving functions and profiles
  • Carrying handle with tilt stand; optional 2U mounting frame for 19 in systems
  • SCPI command set and ModBus RTU; LabVIEW VIs and Windows control software

What it is used for

Some of the use cases for the EL 9000 DT include:

  • Bench load for lab, school, or workshop — a wide voltage, current, and resistance envelope from a compact desktop unit for daily source and power-electronics testing
  • Battery discharge test — a battery test mode that discharges at constant current or constant resistance while counting elapsed time and consumed capacity (Ah) and energy (Wh), with a low-voltage stop threshold and a maximum test period
  • Solar-inverter and PV test — MPP tracking with four modes to simulate solar-module characteristics and determine the maximum power point and its U_MPP, I_MPP, and P_MPP, including a mode with a 100-point irradiation table
  • Function-generated and sequenced testing — sine, triangle, rectangle, trapezoid, ramp, and arbitrary waveforms applied to input voltage or current, with up to 99 sequences saved to and loaded from a USB stick

Load, control, and test functions

Dissipative load with thermal derating. The EL 9000 DT converts absorbed DC power to heat and manages it with thermal derating: the lower the ambient temperature and the better the cooling, the more power the load can take, with the nominal intake power defined at 25 °C ambient. Each model therefore carries a rated power at 25 °C and at 40 °C.

Fast control and test functions. The control core is a fast microprocessor with ARM-controlled hardware that improves analog and digital response over older load series, giving a current rise time under 50 µs. Every model includes a true function generator that applies sine, rectangle, triangle, trapezoid, ramp, and arbitrary waveforms to input voltage or current, with an arbitrary base generator that builds complex function sets in up to 99 sequences saved to and loaded from a USB stick. A battery test mode logs time, Ah, and Wh with a low-voltage stop threshold and maximum test period, and four-mode MPP tracking simulates solar-inverter behavior.

Handling and interfaces. A large multilingual color TFT touch panel with two rotary knobs and a pushbutton shows all set and actual values and handles setup; user profiles and functions load and save over a front USB port. Rear interfaces (USB, Ethernet, and analog) are galvanically isolated and standard, with the analog interface accepting U, I, P, and R at 0–5 V or 0–10 V. Control uses SCPI and ModBus RTU with LabVIEW components, and the free EA Power Control software adds Sequencing and CSV data export, viewable as a discharge diagram in Excel; the optional Multi Control app controls up to 20 units at once.

Why engineers pick it

Fast, precise loading on the bench. ARM-controlled hardware with a <50 µs current rise time handles dynamic load steps in a compact desktop unit.

Test intelligence built in. A battery test mode logging Ah and Wh, four-mode MPP tracking, and a true function generator with up to 99 USB-stored sequences put much of the test routine inside the instrument.

Bench- and rack-flexible. A desktop enclosure with carrying handle and tilt stand for the bench, plus an optional 2U mounting frame for 19 in systems.

Standard connectivity. Isolated USB, Ethernet, and analog interfaces as standard, with SCPI, ModBus RTU, and LabVIEW support, drop the load into automated setups.

Configuring and ordering

The series resolves along power class and model.

  • Power class sets the rating — 600 W or 1200 W peak.
  • Model sets the voltage-and-current envelope, from 0–80 V / 0–45 A through 0–750 V / 0–5 A at 600 W, and 0–80 V / 0–60 A through 0–750 V / 0–10 A at 1200 W. Each model carries its own ordering number.
  • Option — a 2U mounting frame adapts the desktop unit for 19 in systems.
