What does the 8763B measure?
The 8763B family are triaxial accelerometers that measure vibration in three orthogonal axes with low mass.
They are IEPE (Integrated Electronics Piezo-Electric) triaxial accelerometers that allow vibration measurements in the x, y, and z axes. They use Kistler shear element technology, assuring high immunity to base strain. The welded titanium construction provides a lightweight hermetic housing, and an integral silicone cable option is available for waterproof vibration testing up to 16 bar. In addition to adhesive mounting, the 8763B has three 5-40 threaded holes for flexible mounting options, which also allow calibration in each orthogonal axis.
Why engineers pick it
Three axes in a 0.43 in cube. The 8763B weighs 3.6 to 4.6 g, keeping mass loading low on lightweight structures.
Wide bandwidth. On the 250 g through 2,000 g ranges, the response is flat to 10,000 Hz (±5%) and 15,000 Hz (±10%), with a 75 kHz resonant frequency.
Low noise on the 50 g range. Typical threshold is 0.00022 grms (1 Hz … 10 kHz), with 100 mV/g sensitivity.
Mount it three ways and calibrate every axis. Three 5-40 threaded holes support stud mounting on any face and calibration in each orthogonal axis. Wax and adhesive mounting also work.

Connector
A, M4.5 4-pin: all ranges, lowest mass
B, 1/4-28 4-pin: 50, 100, 250, and 500 g ranges only
C, waterproof IP68 integral cable: customer-specified length up to 20 m, terminated with a 1/4-28 4-pin connector
TEDS: base model without TEDS (B), or TEDS templates T00 through T06. TEDS raises output bias by 0.5 VDC nominally.
How is the 8763B mounted?
The sensor attaches with wax or adhesive, or with the supplied adaptor stud on any of the three 5-40 threaded holes, tightened to 6.2 ±0.7 lbf·in (0.7 ±0.07 N·m). Included studs convert 5-40 to 10-32 (Type 8416) or to M6 (Type 8418). Optional ground-isolated and magnetic mounting bases are listed on the Specifications tab.
When is the 8763B the wrong choice?
Temperatures above 250 °F (120 °C). Operating limits are 210 °F on the 50 and 100 g ranges, 230 °F on the 250 g range, and 250 °F on the 500 g and higher ranges.
The 1/4-28 connector on high ranges. The standard 1/4-28 connector is available only on the 50, 100, 250, and 500 g ranges.
Very low frequencies. The time constant is 0.8 … 2.0 s on the 50 and 100 g ranges and 0.4 … 1.5 s on higher ranges, with the response starting at 0.5 Hz or 1 Hz (±5%).

A 0.43 in (10.9 mm) cube, weighing 3.6 to 4.6 g depending on range and connector.
The IP68 integral cable option is tested at 16 bar for 48 hours. The connector versions are hermetic.
Yes. Variants T00 through T06 provide IEEE 1451.4 and LMS templates.
With wax, adhesive, or a supplied stud in any of the three 5-40 threaded holes at 6.2 ±0.7 lbf·in (0.7 ±0.07 N·m).
Mounting studs 8416 (5-40 to 10-32) and 8418 (5-40 to M6), mounting wax 8432 (except integral cable sensors), and an ISO 17025 calibration certificate.
Yes. The threaded holes also serve as a reliable fastening for calibrating each orthogonal axis.
Ground-isolated and differential sensors are preferable for long cable runs. The maximum cable length can be calculated from I = 2 · π · f · C · E, where I is the current in amperes, f the frequency in Hz, C the cable capacitance in farads (typically 98 pF/m), and E the peak output in volts.

With the new assembly workstation for pressing and joining Smart Single Station (SST) 2nd Generation, Kistler presents a fully optimized version of the proven servo press workstation for automated assembly and testing processes. The system can either be used as a manual workstation or fully integrated into the production line. The new version is significantly easier to operate, allowing inexperienced employees to perform various assembly and testing processes correctly. Further improvements including easier data export and the newly designed front door ensure smooth workflows on today’s busy shopfloors.
The electrical contact resistance between two fastener components is a key quality parameter, especially when the bolted joints carry electrical current. If the resistance is too high, heat is generated between the elements. In vehicles, for example, this can lead to malfunctions or even trigger fires. In response to this problem, Kistler is adding the OhmBox to its tried-and-tested ANALYSE friction coefficient test stand. Users of the new OhmBox can measure electrical resistance while fastening is actually in progress. This enables developers to define optimal tightening parameters – so they can design safe and reliable current-carrying bolted joints.
