IMV's chamber is designed to fit directly over the head expander or slip table with no need to add or remove a thermal barrier.
The advantage here is that, irrespective of the displacement of the shaker, the pressure inside the chamber doesn’t change much.
The traditional solution, where the surface of the thermal barrier works as a piston applying high pressure to the inside of the chamber and in shakers with large displacement (3″ or 4″) and high sine velocity (2.4m/s), can be dangerous and cause damage to the chamber.
