Due to upgrades of various sensors, in different locations of the helicopter, there was a need to relay fast communication between the pilot and the co-pilot/gunner.
The customer was looking for a very small 1G LAN rugged switch with management capabilities.
The above-mentioned solution was implemented for one of the leading air forces in North America.
Description
The MILTECH 918 is an 8 port ethernet switch which can be remotely managed to deliver Layer 2 switching to optimize on-vehicle communications traffic prioritization between IP-based devices such as communication and navigation systems, sensors, video cameras and targeting systems.
Advanced network features, never before found in a package of this size, include switching protocols, virtual LANS (VLANS), traffic prioritization (QoS), and bandwidth aggregation are standard. Layer 3 static routing enables on-device IPv4 and IPv6 static routing between VLANs without having to add a router upstream. This further reduces the amount of equipment, weight, and expenditures on mobile military platforms.
With the best combination of size, weight, and cost (SWaP-C) in the industry, it saves valuable real estate in mobile platforms with space and weight limitations such as: Unmanned and compact aerial platforms, mobile ground vehicles and UGVs and autonomous surface and underwater craft.
