Automated Test Equipment in Today's Competitive Landscape

Ensuring reliability and efficiency

Effectively Simulate Real-World Conditions

In the fast-paced business world, automating test equipment processes is not just beneficial???it’s essential. Automated tests not only save time but also enhance effectiveness and comprehensiveness. One key advantage is the elimination of operator errors, ensuring consistent test execution and immediate electronic data collection for analysis. The outcome? Superior testing at reduced costs.

For any Automated Test Equipment (ATE) system, power sources and electronic loads are critical elements. They must be precise, dependable, and seamlessly integrated into your ATE setup. Elektro-Automatik offers a range of DC power supplies, electronic loads, and bidirectional power supplies designed to streamline and enhance automated testing. EA’s power supplies and electronic loads effectively simulate real-world conditions, ensuring that your systems operate both reliably and efficiently.

True Auotranging in Automated Test

Programmable DC power supplies are indispensable in both product development and production testing of modern electronic devices and systems. These power supplies allow for rapid configuration of various conditions, including nominal and marginal input voltages, facilitating comprehensive functional tests.

When testing units like DC motor drives or DC-DC converters, which maintain constant power under fluctuating test conditions, the “autoranging” feature of a programmable DC power source becomes invaluable. Autoranging enables the DC source to deliver increased current while operating at reduced output voltage.

In contrast, ATE systems designed with non-autoranging DC supplies often force users into purchasing over-capacity power supplies or adding extra units to meet the power requirements for testing. True auto-ranging supplies, therefore, offer a more efficient and cost-effective solution for ATE applications.

Cut Testing Costs with Energy-Efficient Regenerative Electronic Loads

Switch-mode power supplies, integral to data centers, industrial machinery, medical equipment, and other mission-critical applications, often undergo extensive “burn-in” tests. These tests, conducted at full load for extended durations, are designed to identify early failures and ensure long-term reliability. Traditional methods employ resistive load banks, which convert the power output into heat, leading to elevated energy costs.

Regenerative electronic loads offer a game-changing alternative by feeding the load power back into the utility grid. This energy-efficient approach can yield energy savings of up to 93%, significantly reducing operational costs. Additionally, less heat dissipation means the need for smaller cooling fans, which not only cuts down on noise but also reduces the overall footprint of the testing setup. Consequently, regenerative loads offer a more cost-effective, quieter, and space-saving solution for rigorous testing scenarios.

Interface Solutions for Every ATE Application

Automatic test applications come with unique interface demands, making it essential to offer a diverse range of digital interface options. EA provides customized remote monitoring interfaces to meet your specific ATE requirements.

For instance, in large-scale systems like aircraft testing, the test setup may be situated far from the control computer. In such cases, an Ethernet interface on your power supply or electronic load would be ideal. For production environments where integration with a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is crucial, a Profibus or Profinet IO interface may be your best choice. If you’re modernizing a legacy ATE system, RS-232 or GPIB interfaces could be the most suitable options. With EA, you’ll find the perfect interface solution for any testing scenario.

Streamline Testing with Bidirectional Power Supplies

Testing battery-powered devices can be challenging due to inconsistent battery performance and the need to pause tests for recharging. EA’s bidirectional power supplies, like the EA PSB-10000, offer a robust solution by simulating both charging and discharging states during automated tests.

The specialized EA Battery Simulator software for Windows PCs enhances this capability. It controls one or multiple EA-PSB 10000 units to mimic standard lead-acid (AGM) and lithium-ion batteries, either in series or parallel configurations. Users can easily adjust test parameters, and once initiated, tests run autonomously.

EA’s integrated approach, combining bidirectional power supplies with our software, negates the need for a dedicated battery bank. It also offers a broad spectrum of reliable and repeatable test voltages and currents, streamlining your battery-powered equipment testing process
